Being new to Detroit I never understood the "coney dog". I must say this place has a very good sample of a good hot dog I like the fact that the window is their but I did not feel as if I was visiting a relative Nice

I gave this place 4 stars but if I could I'd give it 3.5 stars. In my mind I'm comparing it, not to all restaurants, but to other Conies in Detroit. It's not a full service restaurant but I trusted the food, the prices were good, there were some booths and the staff seemed reasonably friendly. I would have rated it higher if it were a full-service restaurant that offered actual dishware and if it were a little bit cleaner (there was cardboard on the floor) though it kind of had that hole-in-the-wall/divey grit thing going for it. We ended up here because I was in Northwest Detroit and craving grated-style hash browns. We cruised Grand River looking for a sit-down Coney. We saw one called Galaxy with a line of booths next to big windows so we parked the car and hoped it had the right kind of hash browns (it did). Although there are booths, and you can get your food "for here," it's not really a sit down place. Most of the people in the six or so booths were just waiting for their to-go orders. We ordered at the counter (friendly-enough staff, sweet to the regulars, pleasant if not matter-of-fact with us) and did end up getting our food to eat there. They told us to hurry up and grab a booth (the place is tiny and was pretty crowded on this Saturday, around noon). When our food came out it was on two trays with styrofoam plates and plastic silverware. The ketchup, hot sauce and salt and pepper were at the counter. I got exactly what I was craving, "The Regular" breakfast with two eggs and then I picked hash browns (but could have picked grits or rice), bacon (but could have picked sausage and maybe other meats I don't remember), and wheat toast (could have picked white). My dish cost about $5 and was quality. My boyfriend is vegetarian and ordered the veggie pita: grilled veggies with feta folded in a pita wrap. He said it was fine. It looked as quality as a veggie wrap on a styrofoam plate could look. We also ordered two small coffees which weren't that small. They also came in styrofoam cups. I'm not sure I'd recommend this Coney unprompted but if you told me you were planning to go I wouldn't say "you shouldn't go there." I'd say, "The food was actually pretty good and it's nice that they have booths."
